Born in Kochi Prefecture on February 6, 1919.
After working at Kochi Newspaper Company and Mitsukoshi Department Store publicity department, he became a freelance.
In 1973, 『 red bean paste-filled bread roll Man 』 was published in the monthly magazine "Kinder Story Ehon" published by Froebelkan.
Since then, he has published many picture books including the Anpanman series.
1988 Tokyo Movie Shinsha (currently Toms Entertainment) created an animation of 『 Sore Ike! Ampamman 』.
Broadcast on Nippon Television Network to the present.
In 1996, "Anpanman Memorial Museum" opened in Kahoku-cho, Kochi Prefecture (currently Kami City).
In 2009, "『 Sore Ike! Ampamman 』" was recognized by the Guinness World Record as the animation with the largest number of Character directors.
In addition to cartoonist and picture book writer, he was active in various fields such as poet, songwriter, composer, playwright and stage director.
Died on October 13, 2013 at the age of 94.
