[Practical guide]
The 300-0 series cars were used for the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen of JR Tokai when the "Nozomi" was newly installed in 1992.
The passenger boarding and alighting doors of the cars introduced in the early period were plug-type. However, from the J16 cars which were added in 1993, they were changed to the sliding door type.
Up to the J29 cars were equipped with three pantographs crossing the lower frame and a large noise-reducing cover. However, from the J16 cars which were increased in size, they were equipped with two pantographs.
From around 1997, the conventional cars were removed.
From around 1999, they were converted to single-arm pantographs and pantograph covers corresponding to the 700 series, and they were used until March 2012.
